Exam Preparation: Lead by Example

Exam Preparation: Lead by Example

Your teen can learn a lot from you when it comes to managing day-to-day ‘juggles and struggles.’
One of the biggest factors for your teen- in the weeks leading up to exams- is to decide how best to prioritise the time they have left. As a parent or guardian, you are likely to do this quite naturally: perhaps it’s that pile of washing that needs to be done and your car needs to be cleaned, but you opt for washing the clothes that you’ll all need to wear tomorrow! Whilst your teenager won’t find this a particularly thrilling analogy, the principle is that you have mastered how to prioritise. Share this skill with your teen!

On many occasions in life, you’ll lead your child by example. Maybe it’s even your parenting motto? But when it comes to helping your teenager prepare for exams with the right nouse and attitude, have you thought about how you can role model this, too

Planning

You most likely have a planner, calendar or phone reminders that help keep track of your family.. who need to know where to be and when! Likewise, your teenager probably has a timetable already organised by now. But it’s worth asking: is it realistic? Does it truly factor in the revision that still remains to be done?
Again, if your child seems to be ‘drawing blanks’ or their revision timetable looks a little bleak, then it can be wise for you, as a parent or guardian, to share how you realistically schedule your days and weeks ahead.

Ask for Help

You can lead by example by asking for help when it’s needed! It can be so easy for us to display attitudes of ‘I’ll do it myself,’ but a large amount of exam preparation is done independently by your teen already. Therefore, help and support along the way makes a real difference and impact when it comes to your teenager’s confidence and final grades.
Does this mean you suddenly need to plough all your energies into teaching your own child everything they need to know about trigonometry, for example?!

No!

Instead, sign your child up for our revision classes. It’s a great way of utilising external expertise in order to give your child the best chances of success. These specific classes are designed to give your child a boost in knowledge, confidence and exam techniques the very weekend before they sit the exam. We offer Classes across several subjects, so this is an excellent way to intensify your child’s revision in an expert-led, focussed environment.

Seeking support, such as this, can dramatically help your child in acquiring the grades that they need.

Our main focus is delivering curriculum-focused revision courses specifically designed for SQA examinations. All of our revision courses are carefully designed by experts to inspire and build confidence as well as give students the best possible preparation tools they need to succeed, whether it is in Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business Management, Geography, History, Modern Studies, French or Spanish.

Lead a Healthy Life

Finally, when it comes to leading by example, ensuring your household is as healthy as it can be is important for your exam-taking teenager. Making sure that your child has a good diet, and a decent night’s sleep, will make a big difference when it comes to the final days of revision. Even more so, this will set them up well for walking into exams feeling ready and refreshed!
